The collagraph is a form of intaglio printing in which the [plate is created by sticking various materials onto a solid backing, either very thin wood or card. The plate is then sealed, dried and selectively inked before being used to generate an image which is full of texture and rich in colour. The collagraph plate is a work of art in its own right. Painted collages are made in the same way as collagraph plates but framed after inking. Some, but not all, of the plates have been used to generate prints.
